Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Last night, a friend gave me a cup of mugwort tea, and I started drinking it. I was drinking it for the first time in my life. After drinking it, I had itching in my mouth and throat. I stopped drinking it immediately but had pain in my throat, chest, and stomach for a few hours. I thought I might be allergic to it. The symptoms went away, but I have had itchiness in my throat and mouth since morning, especially after I eat something. I had plain rice and cereal for lunch and dinner, but I still experience a sore throat. Since dinner, the feeling is not going away. What is the reason for this, and what should I do?

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Possibly the tea you were drinking was expired, or there was a manufacturing defect. So, you have a sore throat, and now you might have an infection in the throat. Please answer the following questions:

  1. Is there any redness at the back of the mouth?
  2. Can you send me a picture of your throat?
  3. Are you taking any medicines currently?
  4. Are you allergic to any antibiotics?

Thank you.

The Probable causes

The probable cause is infection.

Investigations to be done

No investigations are required.

Differential diagnosis

The differential diagnosis is Staphylococcus aureus infection.

Probable diagnosis

The probable diagnosis is a sore throat.

Treatment plan

I suggest you take the tablet Montair-LC (Levocetirizine and Montelukast) before sleeping for five days. Then, consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent.

Preventive measures

Drink lukewarm water.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
