Hello doctor,
I am a 16-year-old female. The back of my throat hurts horribly, and I cannot swallow anything without feeling immense pain. My jaw is extremely sore as well. Whenever I try to open my mouth slightly wider it feels like my jaw is locking and I feel horrible pain. The throat tissue or muscle right behind the wisdom tooth is tense, and I am not sure if that is normal. I feel great pain all around the side of my mouth where that particular wisdom tooth is. Occasionally, I would have pain in my wisdom tooth causing headaches which I believe is completely normal aside from the fact that it happens often. Please help.

I read your query and can understand your concern.
At this age of 16 years, usually, the wisdom tooth is not developed completely. Still, if the pain is mainly located around the wisdom tooth then there might be an infection around it or another molar causing the symptoms. You may need antibiotics like Augmentin (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) three times daily along with a strong painkiller. Please visit a dentist or emergency center for a prescription.
If the discomfort is more towards the throat then you can also show an ENT surgeon for a checkup. Also, you can use a warm salt water gargle to get some relief. The dentist should also do an OPG (orthopantomogram) x-ray to find out if the wisdom tooth has to be extracted.
