Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an MRI two weeks ago. My brain and cranial nerves are healthy. However, the superficial branch nerves across the face and nerves from the base of the skull and back of the head are cranky. It has been nine weeks in the healing phase. I was told that more than four weeks were needed for them to be healed.

I had firing pain, sometimes all over the place, just in forehead or at the backhead. There is a consistent dull pain in the back of the head, eyelid, etc. It is tingling above the eyelid and forehead. The pain also feels like numbness through the back skull.

I got ointment Gabapentin to rub on my skin. It is hard at the back of my head, and I do not want to take painkillers. I want to know how bad it is to take painkillers when needed?

Is this normal, and is this standard for the last stage of healing to have constant dull pain, throbbing on and off? These problems exist for three months following the COVID vaccine.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and would explain that oral Gabapentin coupled with vitamins and alpha-lipoic acid can help improve your situation. It seems that you are in a healing phase, but you may need a couple of months to recover from this situation.

I hope you will find this information helpful. I remain at your disposal in case of further questions whenever you need me.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Can you please answer me the following,

  • How long do these nerve branches usually take to heal?
  • And what is the healing process?
  • Are there stages?
  • Will the pain just stop or be gradual?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It seems that you have suffered from cranial nerve multi neuritis, which is an inflammatory disorder affecting the cranial nerve, probably related to the vaccine or an autoimmune response of your body to a viral agent. In such cases, the nerves regenerate with a speed of approximately 1 cm in a month. However, considering the length of cranial nerves (4 to 8 cm), it may take some months for you to recover completely from this situation.

On the other hand, it is necessary to take Gabapentin orally to help decrease the pain. It is an antiepileptic drug that helps reduce pain and electrical nerve impulses. In addition, some vitamins (vitamin B, omega-3, and alpha-lipoic acid) can help increase recovery speed. I would also recommend checking levels of PCR (polymerase chain reaction), antibodies for Lyme disease, and vitamin D and vitamin B12 plasma levels for possible deficiency.

I hope you will find this information helpful. I would be glad to assist you again whenever you need me. Kind regards.
