Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My partner is wearing spectacles. She is going to undergo lasik surgery next week. She suffers from thyroid. Is it comfortable for her to go for lasik surgery for eyes? Will the eyes get swelled after lasik surgery? Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your partner has thyroid disease and has opted for LASIK surgery. Usually, the healing and remodeling time for the cornea is three months at maximum. So she can recover soon. Just like other surgical procedures, LASIK also have a few shortcomings. I will try to explain it. Thyroid disease, in severe cases, can cause dry eyes. The severity of the problem can vary depending on the pre-operative status of the patient, and most patients require lubricant eyedrops for long periods. It is a normal phenomenon that the power of the eyes can change in women during pregnancy and lactation. So the surgery has a transient action only, and she may need to go back to glasses after childbirth. There is a possibility, and it is not seen in all women. Lasik is currently viewed as an outdated procedure due to flap-related complications. The latest method which has safe and repeatable results is the relex smile. In case, if you have the option to do smile, you can do it. Or in case you do not want to change them at the last minute, go ahead with lasik as it has a good track record for a longer duration than a smile.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
