Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have suffered from laxative abuse for approximately ten years. I am using very strong laxatives, several together. They are not as effective as they were and seem to pull more fluids than waste. I always have nausea because the laxatives work up the waste but do not remove all of it. I can not eat other than drinking water. I have currently not eaten in a week. I have no appetite at all. If I try to eat much, my stomach hurts because all the waste has not been removed. I have to repeat this process daily to remove any waste from my body, as I can no longer have a bowel movement. I have also resorted to enemas to try and remove the waste. Sometimes they work, but most of the time, they do not. As I am sick, I cannot leave home to find someone to help me. Is there any advice you could give me regarding what to do to remove the waste and possibly improve this situation?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You likely have constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome. You are a candidate for tablet Lubiprostone, so you should discuss it with a local doctor. Also, should try Syrup Lactulose if you are yet to try it. Discuss with your doctor before taking any medication. Lifestyle modifications should also be done especially regular exercises like running, which is very useful in promoting motion. Also, it would help if you ate a high-fiber diet like fruits, apples, bananas, oranges, and green leafy vegetables like spinach and raw cucumber. Avoid smoking, refined food, and fatty and oily food.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.
