Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Since I turned 30, my periods have been shorter or lighter, lasting one to two days when they used to be five. However, they are regular, arriving almost the same day every month. I do not have any other symptoms, and my periods are generally the same every month, although they were slightly lighter the last two months (I think because I lost 1.5 kg). Is this normal for someone in their 30s? Should I be concerned? I am worried about my fertility, although my doctor has assured me this is unlikely to be related to fertility or menopause, etc. My doctor performed a transvaginal ultrasound and confirmed that I was ovulating and my uterine lining was sufficient. Still, I would like a second opinion. I am currently on antifungals for a toenail infection.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. Exercise, breastfeeding, stress, etc. can be cause for lighter periods. Please, tell me, since how many months are you observing lighter periods than earlier? Is it only in the last two months or a few more months before that? Did you lose 1.5 kg by exercise, diet control, or other reason?

The only thing is that the uterine line is getting thinner to support pregnancy which you have already got checked through the ultrasound, so there is nothing to worry about; you are fine. Please help me with the information asked by me above to enable me to help you even better.

I do not see your fertility getting affected if it is just two to three months, as the flow can vary due to various factors.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My flow has been consistently like this since I turned 30. Also, I lost about 3 kg in the last three years due to exercise, stress, etc. Does this change your answer? My doctor told me flow is not related to my fertility.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the details.

See, although you are exercising and achieving weight loss, it suppresses certain females' flow. Now whether due to flow or otherwise, as the age increases, the fertility decreases, so irrespective of period flow, you must plan pregnancy soon to prevent high-risk pregnancy. I hope I have been able to help you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
