Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old male who underwent a few tests to check my testosterone levels because I have been feeling weak and depressed for the past 2 to 3 years. Also, I have been doing weightlifting for around 4 to 5 years, very seriously, and have never become better than a beginner. It is quite frustrating to see people, even friends who just started with training, surpass you, even though I invested a lot more time in training. Nothing seems to help here, so I am concerned, and I am sure I have low testosterone levels. I am only getting fat from eating (eating for fitness) and never reach a nice body even at a low weight (I was always fat).

My testosterone levels were 9.9 nmol/L when I was 18 years old, then more recently, 12 nmol/L at 19 years.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Your testosterone levels are below the normal range for your age, and the symptoms you mention are quite consistent. A few symptoms like loss of stamina, decreased muscle mass, decreased libido or erectile dysfunction, and depressed mood are to look out for, most of which you already have. It would be helpful to know your FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), estradiol, and DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) levels to identify the cause of low testosterone and to treat accordingly.

Let me know if you have those results already. If not, I would advise you to get these blood tests checked. Also, let me know if there are other symptoms, like any untoward physical changes like gynecomastia or decreased body hair.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up with the answers.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
