Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I would like to know if those results, especially those which are low and high, are very bad. And what is your advice? I have attached the reports. I take medication for blood pressure and cholesterol. Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have recently done some blood tests. The results have shown that your blood urea nitrogen (BUN), total bilirubin, and total cholesterol levels are slightly above normal (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). On the other hand, alkaline phosphatase and SGOT (serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase) are below normal, and Vitamin D level is insufficient.

Your slightly raised blood urea nitrogen, total bilirubin, and total cholesterol levels do not indicate anything serious. Complete bed rest for a few days and plenty of fluids intake will help bring back your present bilirubin and blood urea nitrogen levels to normal. In addition, restrictions on fatty and oily foods and dairy products will help reduce your total cholesterol level.

Again, slightly decreased SGOT and alkaline phosphatase also do not mean anything bad or serious. It is important to remember that one blood picture does not confirm anything. Because results may vary from laboratories to laboratories due to the technique of sample collection, methods of investigation, reagents, faulty techniques, and many more. So, you can do repeat your blood tests one month later.

But, according to your reports, your Vitamin D level is insufficient as your value is 23.2 ng/mL (30 to100 is a sufficient level). Vitamin D deficiency is very common. It is assumed that about one billion people worldwide have Vitamin D deficiency. Few factors are responsible for Vitamin D deficiency in the blood, such as people with dark skin, older people, obesity or overweight, staying indoor, always using sunscreen while going out, live in less sunny weather, alcohol consumption, etc.

Vitamin D is very much vital for proper immune function. So, deficiency of Vitamin D may increase the risks of infections. Some symptoms may appear due to Vitamin D deficiency, such as tiredness, fatigue, headaches, joint or bone pain, back pain, depression, stress, muscle pain, impaired wound healing, hair loss, low bone mineral density, etc.

As I have already mentioned, Vitamin D deficiency is very common in people, and most are unaware of this deficiency. But, fixing this deficiency is very important to prevent any complications in the near future. Increasing your sun exposure will help to enhance Vitamin D synthesis in the skin. Similarly, eating more Vitamin D enriched foods like fatty fish, green leafy vegetables, intake of Calcium and Vitamin D supplements daily will help to fix your Vitamin D deficiency easily.

I hope this was helpful.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

Is the medicine Indapamide-SR affecting those results? I will check the result after one month. Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Indapamide may cause fluid and electrolyte imbalances which may also cause changes in liver function tests and kidney function tests. In addition, drug-induced changes in blood parameters may be possible. So, do repeat your blood tests one month later. If repeated blood tests also show blood parameters changes, consult your doctor, and he may change your medication.

I hope this was helpful.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

I feel fatigued, chronic fatigue, cold limbs, and intermittent pain when moving from the left side of the back, and pain in the body. Is there anything I can do from a blood test or a blood test or tests done? I am currently taking Perindopril 5 mg, Rosuvastatin 10 mg, and Indapamide-SR 1.5. Kindly give your advice.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your Vitamin D level is insufficient in the blood. And the clinical features of Vitamin D deficiency, if repeated, are chronic Infections, impaired wound healing, severe tiredness and fatigue, headaches, joint pain or bone pain, muscle pain, back pain, depression, stress, hair loss, exhaustion, etc.

Again, Vitamin D helps keep your arteries and blood vessels loose and relaxed enough to ensure proper blood circulation. Vitamin D deficiency may impair proper blood circulation in the extremities that can cause cold extremities. In case of vitamin D deficiency, it can affect your body's immune system and make you more prone to develop feverish feelings, cold, and flu, allergies, asthma, etc. Insufficient Vitamin D can cause bone, back, and muscle pain that may lead to fatigue. According to the researchers, taking supplementary Vitamin D for five weeks significantly helps to improve fatigue symptoms.

The medications you are currently taking, like Perindopril, Rosuvastatin, and Indapamide, may cause more or less the symptoms you are suffering from now. But, as you have taken those medications for a long time, I think that they are not responsible for your present sufferings. It is Vitamin D deficiency that is the main cause of your present sufferings.

Like I have mentioned earlier, fixing Vitamin D deficiency is very easy. So, to ensure prolonged exposure to the sunlight that will help produce Vitamin D synthesis in the skin, take oily and fatty fish, green leafy vegetables, Vitamin D enriched foods or supplements daily, etc., will help subside your Vitamin D D deficiency and its present associated complications.

Take care. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

When I took Vitamin D supplement before, it came back to the original level and then again it back to a low level. Should I take the supplement all my life? Is tea and coffee affecting my blood pressure? For the time being, do I need more investigations or until having Vitamin D supplements and repeat it after a month as you suggesting before because I am stressed. Please give your advice.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Stress and fatigue symptoms are associated with Vitamin D deficiency. So, fixing Vitamin D will help to subside your stress and fatigue symptoms. You can also control your stress by taking measures like yoga, meditation, relaxation techniques, etc.

As you have mentioned, taking Vitamin D supplements regularly will help reduce your fatigue symptoms and tiredness, your past experiences also have suggested that. So, it would help if you started to take Vitamin D supplements. I have already mentioned that taking Vitamin D supplements daily for five weeks will significantly improve fatigue symptoms. But, in your case, you should continue to take Vitamin D supplements for more than five weeks. You can do a repeat blood test for Vitamin D levels every month. Then you can be able to assess your blood Vitamin D level, and that will tell you whether you should continue to take Vitamin D supplements further or not. I think it will be the best treatment plan for you.

As your present sufferings may result from Vitamin D deficiency, I think you do not need to do any further investigation except blood test for Vitamin D. Try to lessen your stress first. Take care. In case of any other queries, please get back to me.
