Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-year-old male of height 5'11'' and weight 154 pounds. I am a vegetarian, and I work out four to five days a week. Recently I got my blood work done, and I need consultation and professional opinion on my report. I am attaching the report with this query. Two things that are obviously off the mark are Vitamin D level and lipoprotein A. My Vitamin D level is 9.4 ng/ml (Vitamin D2 - 0.62 and Vitamin D3 - 8.78 ng/ml). I am also having some lower back pain for two to three months. Which Vitamin D supplement should I take? Also, my lipoprotein A level is 45.52 mg/dl. My family does not have any serious history of heart disease, as far as I know, but my family, from the maternal side, has a history of high BP. Should I go through any other test to rule out the possibility of future CHD? Kindly give your opinion.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I acknowledge your test reports done on the twenty-seventh of last month (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The levels of lipoprotein A are elevated (45.52 mg/dl), Vitamin D total level is low (9.4 ng/ml). Few mild variations in complete blood count, which are nothing to worry about. Other reports are within normal limits. Do not worry, No need to undergo any other investigations. There are few things to do to improve your Vitamin D level and reduce lipoprotein A level. Try to stay hydrated, expose yourself to early morning sunlight for 15 to 20 minutes daily, include fruits such as orange, mango, papaya, apricot in your diet, include vegetables such as carrot, broccoli, soybeans, spinach, paneer, and mushroom in your food, include steam boiled peanuts twice a week, include Green tea twice a day. As you are a vegetarian, I would like to prescribe Cod liver oil capsules which can improve your Vitamin D profile along with other benefits. Do take one capsule daily in the morning after breakfast for three months. You need to take Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) supplements once a week for three months (D rise one gram sachet containing 60,000 IU Cholecalciferol). Other parameters such as your lipid profile and HS CRP (highly-sensitive C-reactive protein) are looking great. So need to worry about the possibility of future CHD (congenital heart disease). Do not worry. Be stress-free. Include meditation, yoga, and mild exercise in your daily routine. I hope this was helpful. Thank you.
