Hello doctor,

I am having pain in the right side of my lower back for the past few days. It is not a severe pain. If I sit, it is relief, but if I stand or walk it hurts and prevents me from being able to stand straight up. I have been using heating pads and hot showers hoping that they would help. I cannot remember injuring it so I am not sure how this happened. It just suddenly felt like I could not stand straight. Please help.

I went through your query and understood your concern. This pain seems to be related to facet arthropathy. So, I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below. Avoid lifting heavy weights. Avoid arching your back, instead bend your knees to pick up something from the floor. Avoid sitting for long hours. Avoid two-wheeler rides. Improve your posture while sitting. Try to get up from your chair every 20 minutes and take a quick walk around. Always sit in a chair with back support. Do not get up suddenly from a sleeping position. Rather, turn to the side, and then get up. Take bed rest if it is severe pain in the back. Do hot fomentation locally over the affected area, at least twice daily. Apply Oxalgin Nano gel (Diclofenac sodium, Methyl salicylate, and Menthol) locally twice daily over the affected area. Take a tablet of Pregabalin (anticonvulsant) 75 milligrams once daily for 15 days before food. Take a tablet of Ibuprofen (painkiller) 400 milligrams twice daily for ten days after food. Take a tablet of Rabeprazole (antacid) 20 milligrams twice daily for ten days before food. Take a tablet of Shelcal (calcium and vitamin D3) 500 milligrams twice daily for 30 days before food. Do William's back flexion exercises, back core strengthening exercises, and passive straight leg raising exercises. Start physiotherapy once the pain subsides. Also, do yoga and regular walking. I suggest do not take these tablets if you have bronchial asthma. Perform these exercises under the supervision of a physiotherapist.
