Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a small lump on my jawline for years; recently, another one has popped up next to it. It is small, like pea-sized. Sometimes they are sore, sometimes not sore.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

A small lump below the jawline can be an enlarged lymph node or a sebaceous cyst. Both are usually painless but can cause pain if infected. Is the lump growing? Is it visible or only palpable? Is it mobile or fixed? Is it superficial, just below the skin, or deep into the tissue? Did you have any dental infections in the last few years? Can you send me the pictures of the lump?

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your answer.

The lump is movable. I am not sure if it is a dental infection. Sometimes it is sore but not painful.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If it is deep below the skin and mobile, it is most probably a lymph node. Lymph nodes are a part of our defense system. They are distributed in different parts of the body. They get enlarged in response to any trauma or infection to the nearby tissues. They become painful when they are infected or enlarged. Many people have enlarged lymph nodes on the upper part of the neck below the jaw. There is nothing much to worry about it. Keep good oral hygiene and do a regular dental check-ups.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
