HomeAnswersRadiologylung abscessWhat do the X-ray reports of my lungs and kidneys suggest?

Is a well-defined, thick-walled cavity in the lung suggestive of a lung abscess?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a complaint of pain and had taken tablet Ibuprofen in the past. I am sharing my X-ray reports. I want them to be interpreted by a radiologist.

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I have reviewed your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). IVP (intravenous pyelogram) X-ray shows a normal right kidney and ureter, a duplex collecting system involving the left kidney with a partial duplication of the ureter. The duplicated ureters are fused at the distal end. The bladder is normal, and both the ureters have normal insertion into the bladder.

A frontal chest X-ray shows a cavitary lesion in the upper lobe of the left lung with an air-fluid level. There is evidence of surrounding homogenous opacification, indicating ground opacification or fibrosis that appears like a lung abscess. If you have a fever, I suggest you get a CT (computed tomography) scan.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

I have attached the concerned reports.

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The frontal chest X-ray shows a well-defined thick-walled cavitary lesion with air-fluid levels in the upper lobe of the left lung. There is also evidence of surrounding homogeneous opacification.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

What does IVP stand for? Can you kindly let me know whether there is any pathology, and the probable diagnosis?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

IVP stands for intravenous pyelography. The X-ray shows that the rest of the lung parenchyma is normal, the cardiac shadow is within normal limits, the costophrenic angles are free, the domes of the diaphragm are normal, and the visualized skeleton appears normal.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further questions.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

How many pathological findings are there? Also, can you explain the shadow strength (radiopaque, radiolucent, or mixed ), shape (round, triangular, or ellipse), and dimensions (mm or cm)?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is a mixed lesion, and the shape is round.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
