Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My mom has lung cancer, she is 69 years old, recently did six weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The scan report came out, need help interpreting it. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. I have gone through the reports (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity) you have attached. The current report is suggestive of improvement in the large primary tumor. But now develops small nodules in the right lung and one micro nodule in the left lung. May I know her symptoms? I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it seems the tumor has gone. But what are the nodules, what do they mean, and what might be the cause? Her current symptoms include chest pain, she feels like a plate on the chest, pain when swallowing, fatigued, and eating less. She finished a six-week combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy about one month ago. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. Nodules are mostly cancerous. This is due to the hematological spread or blood spread of tumor cells. May I know which chemotherapy drugs were given? Any smoking habits or family history of lung cancer? Please reply to me with the above questions so that I can guide you better. I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply. Chemotherapy drugs given are tablet Carboplatine 150 mg and tablet Paclitaxel 30 mg. She has been a smoker for 50 years, she stopped once she was diagnosed with lung cancer, and her mom also had lung cancer. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. She has both the risk factors like smoking and family history. So recurrence is likely, and I suggest she will need another set of chemotherapy. I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply. What is the best way to know if this is cancer spread? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. The best way is to biopsy from nodules. If this is not possible, then a PET (positron emission tomography) scan should be done. If PET shows positive uptake in nodules, it is most likely cancerous. Any symptoms of blood in sputum at present? I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
