Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a small palpable lymph node in my groin. It is about one centimeter long. It is movable and has not grown. I have been able to feel it for about four months. I first noticed it when I had a small cyst on my groin. Should I be concerned that it is still palpable?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You have mentioned palpable lymph node swelling in the groin area. Initially small, and now attained its present size. Kindly answer the following questions.

  1. Is there any localized infection around the groin area?
  2. Any symptoms related to the urinary system like difficult micturition or pus discharge?
  3. Can you able to palpate any swelling in the opposite groin?
  4. Have you done an ultrasound of the groin to know the exact size of the swollen lymph node?
  5. Is it soft or hard on palpation?
  6. Any discharge from the swelling lymph node?
  7. Do you have any systemic symptoms like a mild fever or decreased appetite?
  8. Is there any associated pain on palpation?
  9. Any local erythema of the skin?

Kindly share a picture to assess it better.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

1. I have a small recurring cyst or infected hair follicle in the groin on the same side. It comes and goes.

2. I do not have any issues passing urine or pus.

3. I can feel a much smaller node on the opposite groin.

4. I do not know the exact size, but it does not feel any bigger than one centimeter in length and feels shorter in width.

5. It is not hard like a stone but not squishy soft. It moves from side to side when I try to palpate it.

6. There is no discharge.

7. No loss in appetite or fever, or weight loss.

8. It does not hurt. However, if I have been poking and prodding at it throughout the day, my groin can feel a little tender.

I cannot attach a picture, and it is not visible. I can only feel it if I dig into my groin a bit.

I have attached a picture of the location if that helps.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have reviewed the reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). A small recurring cyst or infected hair follicle in the groin on the same side can come and goes. This is the reason for swollen lymph nodes, called reactive lymphadenopathy. You should take an antibiotic to cure it. I suggest taking a tablet of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid combination medication 625 mg thrice daily for five days. Have you taken any medication for recurrent hair follicle infections? Also, check your glucose level, as increased glucose level is one of the causes of recurrent disease. Once the condition of the hair follicle subsides swollen lymph node will decrease to a nonpalpable size. You do not need to worry about it.

I hope this information will help.

Thanks.
