Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter is a 15-year-old girl and weighs approximately about 42 kg. She has measles for more than a week; now, she is only taking Dolan for fever. Now she's quite upset with her swollen throat, and she spits once with blood. She has a bad taste; that is why she seldom eats. Her throat is always dry, and she has difficulty in sleeping. She has high thigh aches and has swollen eyes too. Is there any medication you can recommend to take to heal her swollen throat? Please kindly advise. She has been hurting a lot now. Thank you so much.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, some medicines will reduce the swelling and throat infection as well. If she spits out blood, there are possibilities of mouth ulcers. Can you please send me a picture of her mouth and the swollen part? Please take tablet Augmentin (Amoxicillin 500 mg and Clavulanic acid 125 mg) 625 mg twice a day after meal for five days. Tablet Multivitamin 500 mg once a day after meal. Please send a picture so I can see and let you know further.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I cannot get a picture of the inside of the mouth. This is what I have got.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you so much for your reply.

We have finished the antibiotics now. But still, her throat aches, and has difficulty in eating due to the additional red spots on her face and her lips, too, which she complaints a lot. And the multivitamins, what particular brand will you recommend. I have not given her yet because she is under medication. Please advise what to apply on her lips to cure it and to lessen the pain. Her throat is not that painful now, but sometimes it is difficult to swallow. Please advise. Thank you so much.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can buy any brand Multivitamin tablet 500 mg. It is the same everywhere.

And you will have to do a blood CBC (Complete blood count) test to check the severity of the infection. So please do that.

And give her more fluids, such as water and juices.

As I can see (attachment removed to protect patient identity), there are dry lips, indicating dehydration.

  • Which medicine did you give along with antibiotics?
  • Does she still have a fever?
  • Is there still any swelling in her mouth?

Please let me know so I can help further.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Today she has no fever, but on previous days I gave her Dolan even when she is taking antibiotics. She is in pain with her lips; that is why taking in more liquids now, and this morning when she drinks water, she throws them out right after. Can she take multivitamins even under medication? Can I take her out for CBC? Is her measles normal? It has been two weeks now, but still, the measles remains.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Actually, the duration is two to three weeks to subside, as just now she got spots it will take time. If you cannot get a blood test, it is fine. Give her Augmentin 650 mg three times a day for the next five days. And she can take a Multivitamin once a day in the evening with antibiotics no problem at all. Did she get the vaccines for measles? And hopefully, in a week, symptoms will decrease, and everything will be fine. If anything else, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Ma’am as you can see she has completed 2 weeks of her disease onset, now the rashes from the face have decreased and from the extremity also it will go. Usually, vision is not really associated with it. But it can be due to vitamin deficiency which is common in measles. For dryness please give her more fluids and a chewable vitamin tablet 50000 IU once a day for five days. Please further consultation is needed with an opthalmologist. He will check and let you know what’s going on. So please in such case you can visit.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Thanks, Doc for your quick reply. She just showed me that there are still white spots inside her mouth and maybe in her throat. I think that's why she is still experiencing dryness and bad taste. She has been gargling too especially when she complains. Do you think that those white spots in her mouth will disappear soon too? She feels irritated with her mouth and that's why she is not eating well. She even complains of bad taste in the water. What else she can do to lessen that bad taste? Thanks so much.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

Yes, ma'am, I believe that everything will disappear soon and this is due to infection and dehydration. So I recommend you give her lots of fluids throughout the day at least 4 to 5 liters a day. Give her lemon water and juices. She needs lots of fluids. This is the third week of this problem. In this week most probably it will disappear and please consult an ophthalmologist for the eye. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Hello Doc. I just want to ask, in your opinion how long will it take for the rashes to heal? I want to show the parts where measles is still active. She still complains of blurred eyes. Do you think we still need antibiotics? Thank you, doctor.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Actually ma’am it has been three weeks already, when new lesions are not coming, then antibiotics are not required. Just give her vitamin A as I prescribed previously. Are there any new lesions coming anywhere on the body? How is the condition overall? Does she still have a fever or dry mouth or pain in the mouth? Where does she have lesions now? All over the body or just in the neck? Please answer.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

There are no new lesions, only some lesions in the neck, no fever, quite a dry mouth, and still a bad taste of food. There are lymph nodes in the neck and back of the neck. There is pain everywhere in the back, both shoulder, legs, thigh, butt, below the butt, and right foot.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com

Ok, ma'am, give vitamin A supplementation and more fluids and if she has pain, then give her tablet Paracetamol 500 mg once a day after meal for 5 days. Give proper diet with more fruits and juices and everything will be fine in this week. If anything else please message me.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Just now new rashes came and it is so itchy that she cannot help scratching it. Is it still measles? Can she take a bath with warm water so the itchiness might get lessen? Between the days, I gave her Dolan because she has pains. But after taking Dolan, those rashes came out and it is so itchy now. Please tell me what to do. Thanks so much.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, ma'am, these rashes are not due to meals. They are more likely to be allergic dermatitis and please do not give Dolan. Give her Cetrizine 10 mg once a day after a meal and you can apply Beclomethasone and Clotrimazole cream on these lesions 2 to 3 times a day. It will reduce the itching and pain as well. Yes ma’am she can take bath and it will help. Please give her fresh clothes (washed clothes) every time after bath. If anything else please let me know. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Here is her picture now. She has a fever of 38.6 degrees again. Can I give her Paracetamol now even without eating yet? I gave her cetirizine last night and I think it helped in relieving the itchiness. Please advise. Thanks so much.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Hi ma’am. Welcome once again. Yes, ma’am, you can give Paracetamol but it will be better if you give it after a meal. Yes, ma’am, Cetrizine was prescribed for itching and rashes. Her rashes are almost gone and now you can go for a blood test once. It will be good to know what is going on. So please do a blood CBC (complete blood count) test.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
