Corneal Abrasion

A corneal abrasion refers to a mild scratch or abrasion on the surface of the protective layer called the cornea. The signs and symptoms of corneal abrasion include pain, redness, tearing, headache, and a gritty feeling in the eyes. It usually heals on its own within two to three days in the case of superficial corneal abrasion. Non-preserved lubricating eye drops are recommended to keep the eyes moist and comfort during healing. To prevent infection during healing, antibiotic eye drops are also prescribed.
