Enlarged Testes

Swelling of the testicle can be one-sided or affect both sides, painful or painless, benign or malignant. Hydrocele (fluid build-up around the testis), varicocele, cysts, hernia, and groin injury are common causes. Rarely a testicular swelling can be the presentation of testicular cancer. Testicular torsion is an emergency condition where the testicles twist within the scrotum with blood flow obstruction. Hence they need immediate treatment. Surgical repair is necessary to treat hydrocele, varicocele, hernia, and testicular cancer (radiotherapy and chemotherapy may or may not be required based on the cancer staging).
