Common "Floating Stools" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Floating Stools

Most commonly, floating stools are because of excess gas from what you eat or poor absorption of nutrients. Foods that are high in sugar, starch, and fiber, such as soft drinks, apples, and milk, commonly cause gas. Poor absorption or malabsorption is when the nutrients are not getting properly absorbed by the small intestine. Other medical conditions that can result in floating stools are cystic fibrosis, celiac disease, short bowel syndrome, and some rare genetic conditions.
