Common "Nail Pigmentation" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Nail Pigmentation

Nail pigmentation occurs due to melanonychia. It is a condition where melanocytes deposit melanin in the nail. It appears as a longitudinal brown-black band starting from the matrix and extending to the nail plate's free edge. The causes are inflammatory skin diseases and malnutrition. Benign conditions resolve on themselves, and malignant conditions may require treatment.
