Common "Nerve Root Irritation" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Nerve Root Irritation

Nerve root irritation or radiculopathy occurs when the nerve root gets pinched or compressed while exiting a bone, intervertebral disk, and due to stenosis (narrowing). These can be due to degeneration or injury. Presenting symptoms of nerve root irritation are numbness, paresthesia, sharp pain, weakness, a sensation of pins and needles, etc. Based on the region supplied by the nerve, symptoms appear in hands, legs, hip, neck, etc. Pain medications, physiotherapy, and steroid injections help in relieving the symptoms. In extreme conditions, surgery may be implicated.
