Neutropenia

Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that helps to fight against harmful bacteria attacking the body. They are produced in the bone marrow. Neutropenia is a condition presenting with a low level of neutrophils in the blood. Neutropenia can occur due to chemotherapy, bone marrow disorders, vitamin B12 deficiency, and autoimmune diseases like Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Neutropenia can be treated by taking antibiotics for infection and taking drugs for making bone marrow produce more neutrophils. In some cases, a bone marrow transplant is done.
