Oral Candidiasis

Oral Candidiasis is also called oral thrush. It is an overgrowth of fungus caused by a fungus called Candida albicans that accumulates on the lining of the mouth. Candida is a common organism present inside the mouth, but sometimes it can cause symptoms when it overgrows. It causes creamy white lesions, usually on the tongue or the inner cheeks and sometimes on the gums or tonsils, the roof of the mouth, or the back of the throat. Babies and older people are at higher risk because their immune systems are not very strong. Newborn babies might get thrush if the mother had vaginal candidiasis.
