Common "Painful Periods" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Painful Periods

A painful period is also called dysmenorrhea. There are two types of dysmenorrhea known as primary dysmenorrhea and secondary dysmenorrhea. The primary dysmenorrhea is the pain occurring in the lower abdomen before or during the menstrual cycle, in the absence of other diseases. If there are painful periods due to any disorder or infection in the female reproductive system, it is known as secondary dysmenorrhea. Pain from secondary dysmenorrhea can usually begin earlier in the menstrual cycle and lasts longer than the common menstrual cramps.
