Periodontal Flap Surgeries

Periodontal flap surgeries are used to treat uncontrollable periodontitis (a severe gum disease). Initially, the periodontal pockets (pathological deepening of gingival sulcus) with calculus (tartar) are cleaned by scaling. When the periodontal pockets exceed beyond the gum line, they result in gum recession, and the surrounding tissues and ligaments get destroyed. Flap surgeries are done to reposition the receded gums and to repair the periodontal pockets.
