Peritonsillar Abscess

Peritonsillar abscess appears as pus-filled pockets near or over the tonsils, following mostly a streptococcal infection. It is also known as quinsy. It causes white patches in the throat region with symptoms such as painful swallow, redness, sore throat, bad breath, swelling, and displacement of the uvula towards the unaffected side. It is accompanied by swollen lymph glands and fever. Antibiotics and painkillers are the treatment of choice.
