Common "Pit Caries" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Pit Caries

Pits and fissure caries occur on the biting surface of the posterior teeth causing damage to the enamel. A pit is a tiny depression present on the tooth's surface, and fissures are grooves that occur on the tooth's biting surface. It often appears on the occlusal surface of posterior teeth and the palatal surface of anterior teeth. Taking frequent snacks and drinking sugary drinks are the causes. It is treated by placing fluoride toothpaste on small cavities. A tooth filling is placed when it reaches the dentin.
