Precautions After Tooth Removal

After a dental extraction, there are certain do's and do not's that the patient needs to follow for uneventful healing. These are commonly referred to as post-extraction instructions. Firstly soon after extraction, the patient must bite and keep in place the cotton or gauze pad for atleast 30 minutes to arrest bleeding. Avoid too hot food, start taking a soft or liquid diet, avoid forceful spitting or sipping using a straw. Do not rinse or brush forcefully in the extracted region. Avoid palpation of the site with the tongue or hand. Smoking is not advised. Take necessary medications that the dentist prescribes.
