Removal of the coccyx is a surgical procedure which is referred to as coccygectomy. In this procedure, an incision is made directly over the coccyx, and it is removed. After the removal, the prominent end of the sacrum to which the coccyx was attached is smoothened. This surgery is not commonly done.
