Risser’s sign is a method of measuring skeletal maturity with the help of X-rays. The degree of mineralization or ossification of the ilium part of the hip bone is used as a parameter to judge overall skeletal development. The sign is used to determine the future growth potential of the spine in young adults, especially in the case of spinal scoliosis. A typical five-point grading scale is used to determine skeletal maturity.
