The surgery done to remove inflamed tonsils is called tonsillectomy. It is usually indicated for recurring, chronic, and bacterial tonsillitis that does not respond to antibiotics. It is also indicated if tonsillitis causes complications like sleep apnea, difficulty breathing, and peritonsillar abscess.
