Venous Stasis

Venous stasis is the improper functioning of the veins which carry the blood back to the heart. If it occurs following an injury, it can cause superficial phlebitis and deep vein thrombosis. It can also happen due to congestive heart failure or renal failure when it presents as swelling in the lower legs and ankle. Symptoms include pain and fatigue, which worsens on standing.
