Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a 2 year old female child who is struggling to have a bowel movement. She struggles and tenses up so hard to pass stools. Is there something that can be given to overcome this?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your child has constipation.

The common causes of constipation are anal fissure and dietary factors.

If it has been for less than one month, start lactulose 7 mL twice a day for 15 days and revert with results.

Give her high-fiber diet and plenty of fluids.

Make your child sit in warm water for about 15 minutes daily, such that her hips and buttocks are inside the water (sitz bath).

If constipation has been there for more than a month, get these blood tests done:

  1. CBC (complete blood count).
  2. TTGA (tissue transglutaminase antibody).
  3. IgA.
  4. Thyroid function tests.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
