Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had intercourse with my girlfriend on the fourth day of her cycle. The next morning she took Unwanted 72 (emergency birth control pill) since it was unprotected. After around one week she had light periods, which continued for three to four days. The next month she got a delayed period. Now, on the first day of her cycle we had intercourse again. This time too without any protection. But this time she did not take any pill and did not get periods yet. She took home pregnancy test twice, but it came as negative. First one was three days after intercourse and the second one three days after her due date of periods. Both of us are tensed now. Please suggest. She is 25 years now. Is there any chance for pregnancy? Or any other complication is waiting?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.

The chances of pregnancy are almost nil in your case, as she had unprotected sex in her safe period days. She should repeat her urine pregnancy test after five days and share her results with us (though the chances of pregnancy are quite low). Period may be delayed due to i-pill which she took in the previous month.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your prompt response. Actually now we are concerned because this is getting delayed for six days. She is having PMS like symptoms such as nausea, tender breast and abdominal cramp, but somehow that got stuck in between. Can you suggest any medicine or any other process that might help to make it swift and subsequently trigger her cycle?

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

First of all she should go for repeat pregnancy test. Then she can take Progesterone for withdrawal bleeding after consulting with your treating doctor.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
