Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am feeling very restless, sleepy, and crying the whole day. I have a feeling that I am suffering from depression. Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Firstly, I would like to know whether the way you are feeling has followed any stressful event or incident in your life. Also, how long you are feeling this way is also an important aspect to be known, to be able to call it depression. Nonetheless, I will answer your query keeping depression in mind since the three symptoms described by you point towards the diagnosis. If all this has followed after a stressful event then you will have to talk about it with someone, to be able to vent it out and then move ahead. Since you are crying all day, it is apparent that you are feeling sad all day. It will be better to introspect on what thought exactly is causing you to feel this way. Restlessness is a symptom of anxiety, the cause of which also should be found out first to be able to deal with it. I would suggest you write down your thoughts which make you feel sad, on a paper. In front of each of them, you should write your action about it, as in what you may do with that thought or worry. Meditation and in particular mindfulness technique helps a lot with anxiety. It will calm your mind and slow down the chain of thoughts. You should also indulge in any hobbies that you enjoyed before. Going out on a walk is a good idea to refresh the mind and helps to think about your situation from a different perspective. I am certain that you are a brave girl who has come this far in life with your best efforts. Try to write down and focus on your strengths. Define your ambitions and goals in life and write down what you would like to do to achieve them.

Thank you.
