Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female. My weight is 105.82 Ibs, and my height is 5'2". I have fair skin. I had nodular acne on my face, back and shoulder. I was on Isotretinoin for five months and have gotten over my acne. However, my skin looks lifeless, unmoisturized, and dull on the face, hands, and shoulder, even after applying the moisturizer. What should I do now to get healthy and glowing skin all over my body?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The dull skin is due to the capsule Isotretinoin. It removes the moisturizing sebum and oil from the skin and acts against acne. Unfortunately, the same action causes the side effect of dry and itchy skin. First, you should understand that this effect is temporary and will improve with time. It may take two to four months at the most. I suggest you do the following:

  1. Avoid using soap on your skin. Instead, use a medicated cleansing lotion like Cetaphil (water, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben). Do not scrub or bleach this area.
  2. Use a good emollient like Aveeno moisturizing lotion (Dimethicone) for your skin, but avoid it on the face. Instead, apply non-comedogenic sunscreen on the face.
  3. Also, supplements containing vitamins C and E such as capsule CuteE, can be used.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
