Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my period continuously for three weeks; it finished about ten days ago. My periods are usually irregular. Also, I have been experiencing light bleeding till now. I am uncertain about why this happened and suspected that I may have been pregnant. Kindly help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The description provided by you is very short and has few details. Please send your detailed medical history.

I would advise you to carry out a blood pregnancy test (serum beta hCG) that will help to understand the actual status of your pregnancy. If this test is positive, you will have to undergo a transvaginal examination to check if there are any products of conception in the uterus, and immediate D&E (dilatation and evacuation) will have to be carried out.

If the test comes negative, your gynecologist will prescribe oral medications to regulate your menstrual cycle. Also, you need to carry out a thyroid function test if the blood pregnancy result comes negative.

Apart from this, keep a check on the regularity of your menstrual cycle, any abnormal hair growth on the body or face, and unexplained weight gain. If any of the mentioned symptoms persist, then I suggest the following blood tests to be done -

Serum progesterone, prolactin, testosterone, insulin, FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), and LH (luteinizing hormone) on the second day of your period and revert with the test results.

Regards,

Good luck.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
