Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was taking psychiatric medications tablet Risperidone 1 mg and Divalproex for 10 years. Now I am taking tablet Paliperidone 100 mg and Divalproex 750 mg and Bupropion 150 mg. I have sexual dysfunction, and erectile dysfunction as a result of the medication for 10 years now and recently since I started taking tablet Burporpion. I have digestive issues and I think that is what is making me sick all the time, do I stop taking tablet Burporpion?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Tablet Bupropion is relatively well tolerated and if we consider sexual issues the risk of sexual side effects is rare. The drug imparts positive benefits on sexual health. Gastric issues too are rare. But if you have gastric issue then for some time you can take antacid like tablet Omeprazole or Famotidine. This should reduce the sexual side effects.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

So how do I get my erection back that I have lost for 10 years? But I started using the tablet Burporpion relatively new one month ago. But I was on tablet Risperidone 1 mg for 10 years. During almost all that time I had erectile dysfunction. But since I started taking the tablet Burporpion I have improved sexual health but not sufficient erection. What adjustments do I need to do in terms of medication to get my erection back hopefully.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Have you got any investigations done for your issues? I will advise you to check for your serum prolactin and testosterone levels. Antipsychotics are known to raise prolactin levels. This could be the cause of low libido. Other investigations that should be done are lipid profiles and blood sugar levels. Your weight should be in the normal BMI (body mass index) range.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have not done or talked about it for 10 years But now I am talking about my erectile dysfunction. My prolactin is a little high and my testosterone was low then I had testosterone injections and it became strong but I still have erectile dysfunction. Recently I have been getting a slight erection before I was not at all getting anything but still not sufficient for intercourse. Is that all you have to advise about investigations? If I fix these four things am I guaranteed my erection back?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you will definitely regain the erection. This can improve your confidence too.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I should be getting an erection without stimulation (like without masturbating) or do I have to masturbate to get an erection?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If by imagination or by stimulation you have an erection then there is no problem at all.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I do not want to stimulate. Would I notice an erection by imagination? If those issues are resolved hopefully and if I take a tablet of Viagra I mean would I notice an erection without the need to masturbate or do I have to stimulate myself? Because before I was sick I would get an erection naturally without the need to stimulate it. Once those issues are fixed would I notice a natural erection again or do I need to stimulate myself?

HI,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can get erection on imagination. You can touch your penis to get erection.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
