Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My partner has mental breakdowns consistently every two months. He is very insecure and fragile, cannot bear critics, and aggressively reacts to it. He is impulsive, has suicidal thoughts, has extremely low self-esteem, and always thinks people are talking about him. Somehow the conversation will always be about him. He loves himself, but at the same time, he feels very ashamed of himself. When he is on the downside, he will easily neglect all responsibilities as an adult, so he never lasts long in any job and always has financial problems. But after the downside, he will be positive again and starts talking about his dreams and things he thinks he can do, but none of those sounds realistic. I suspect he has some personality disorder and hope he will seek professional help. However, he does not seem to believe in therapy. I hope you can give me some advice.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist. Your friend may have a borderline personality disorder. He may have a chronic feeling of emptiness, emotional outbursts, self-harming, and overwhelming behavior. He mostly feels that no one understands him in this world. He may have difficulty keeping the relationship for a long time. He may have frequent job-related issues and anger outbursts. You need to take him to the nearest psychiatrist for further detailed evaluation and management.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
