Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My last menstruation happened 50 days ago. But usually, my cycle is around 33 to 36 days on average. We had unprotected intercourse on the 11th day of my cycle, and I checked UPT on my 46th day. It was negative. I started taking tablet Meprate 10 mg once daily and had only for three days and discontinued for some other reasons. Today is the 52nd day, and no periods yet. So, can I restart Meprate again? And also, I am taking Thyronorm 100 mg tablet for seven years, and my TSH levels are normal.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The cause for delay in the period may be due to the discontinuation of tablet Meprate 10 mg (Medroxyprogesterone acetate). It is essential to take the complete dose, as the progesterone levels in the body have to reach a critical level before it is stopped for the bleeding to occur. So, I suggest you repeat the dose of Meprate. And kindly take the full course as Meprate 10 mg twice daily for five days (once may not be enough). Bleeding should occur within two to seven days of stopping pills. Also, bleeding may be heavy this time as the period is happening after a long delay. If bleeding does not occur even after this course, it would be wise to take an ultrasound scan to see any other cause.

I hope this was useful.

Regards.
