Metal Filling Disadvantage

Metal fillings are usually amalgam, gold, and nickel or cobalt-chrome restorations. Amalgam restoration is also known as silver fillings. Disadvantages of metal restorations are that they are esthetically displeasing due to their dark color, prone to fracture, loss of more tooth structure due to extensive preparation, stained teeth gradually, heat or cold conduction, sensitivity, etc. But the main disadvantage always remains to be their dark appearance in contrast to the normal tooth color.
