MGUS (Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance) refers to a condition in which the bone marrow produces an abnormal protein called monoclonal protein, or M-protein, in the blood. MGUS belongs to a spectrum of diseases known as plasma cell dyscrasias. It usually does not cause any problems, but people with MGUS have a higher risk of developing severe bone marrow disorders or some forms of cancer. However, if the disease does not progress, MGUS does not require any treatment.
