Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 23 years old and on birth control pills for five years without missing a dose. Usually, I have a pretty regular cycle. Had sex using withdrawal method due to STD free and on the pill. Started a new job (career) as well as ended that relationship, missed a period. At about 10 days late, my home urine test was negative. The second test was negative about two weeks after this. Got some light spotting around next cycle but no period. How likely that I am pregnant? What else could be causing this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your history and understand your concern. As you had protected sex, there is almost no chance of pregnancy in your case. Delayed menses and spotting could be due to hormonal imbalance caused by sex. Get your blood beta hCG levels to rule out the possibility of pregnancy.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

So with the birth control and negative urine tests you would be willing to guess the chance of pregnancy, even with missed periods and light spotting is very small?

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The chances of pregnancy are almost nil in your case as you are on birth control pills for contraception and urine pregnancy test is negative. It could be due to hormonal imbalance but better to rule out the possibility of pregnancy (confirmation is important), that is why blood beta hCG levels are important.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
