Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my last period 1.5 months back which lasted for three days. I had unprotected sex two days after that. I took an I-pill on that day itself and started having bleeding in five days which again lasted for three days. It was more like a period only. I took a pregnancy test four days back and it came out negative but still, I have not got my periods. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have already described that after unprotected sex you took a hormonal emergency contraceptive. Emergency contraceptive pills are hormones that interfere with regular cycles and act to prevent conception by interference in ovulation, fertilization or implantation and then causes withdrawal bleed. After the I-pill, the menstrual cycle gets disturbed and can show some irregular cycles. For your satisfaction, you did a pregnancy test that was negative. If this test is done with urine, then it is better to have serum beta hCG (blood pregnancy test) that will clearly state your pregnancy status. Beta hCG can be positive after a miscarriage but it will show gradual reduction that can be checked by another beta hCG after 48 hours of the previous test. In case of bleeding, pain, dizziness, report to a tertiary care emergency department.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
