Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My last period was ten months ago. I tested for pregnancy, but it was negative.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There are a few other factors as well, in addition to pregnancy, that can delay periods. Hormonal imbalance, strict diet, strenuous exercise, sudden weight gain or loss, thyroid abnormalities, etc., check for these as well.

Have a blood pregnancy test (serum Beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) if you have not done a urine pregnancy test in very early pregnancy, sometimes unable to detect pregnancy hormones. Suppose the blood pregnancy test comes negative. Please discuss this with your doctor before taking any medication. Then you can have a tablet of Norethisterone for seven days and wait for one to two weeks for a withdrawal bleed.

  • On day two of the bleeding, have a blood test to check the reason for the delay (serum progesterone, testosterone, insulin, prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) or Luteinizing hormone (LH), and thyroid function test).
  • Have a transvaginal scan outside menstrual days.

Discuss all results of the above investigations with a local gynecologist or with here.

Thank you.
