HomeAnswersDermatologymoleWhat is the treatment for the tiny moles reddened by accidental poking while gardening?

Should I worry about the reddish mole on my face that does not have any irritation?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can you please take a look at this tiny mole? I am not sure for how long it has been there, but I do not particularly remember seeing it or standing out. I saw it a few weeks ago (for no particular reason, just putting on my socks), and it seemed a bit more red, and I thought I would have poked it in some grass while gardening. So the first two photos are from a couple of weeks ago, and the others are from today. I do not have any irritation. I get a bit paranoid about my moles. Does it look normal to you?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. It is normal if you have a confirmed history of any trauma during gardening, but if you are unsure, kindly get a dermoscopic examination done for confirmation of diagnosis. From the image attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), 99 % it is normal, but a 100 % confirmation requires dermoscopic examination (magnifying lens with proper illumination to study minute details).

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. What does it mean by 'normal' if trauma is confirmed? If I did not have a history of trauma from gardening, does it not look normal? Or, regardless of trauma, are you saying you are 99 % sure it is normal?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. If there is trauma, then redness can be attributed to it, which is normal. If there is no history of trauma, it has to be confirmed with dermoscopic examination as a sudden change in any mole has to be viewed in suspicion with melanoma. Here I can be 99 % sure from the images (attachment removed to protect patients identity) which you have sent.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. Just to confirm, the first two images are from a couple of weeks ago when I think I may have pricked it with the grass. The other images (where it looks more normal and less red) are from yesterday. So if you have seen the images from yesterday, does it look normal? I am assuming a melanoma would not change to look normal. I hope you get the gist of what I am saying. I added another three images. Another red mark (probably from the grass) was visible that has now gone. So I assumed the mole's initial redness was attributed to the same thing.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Yes, it looks normal as other red marks that disappeared could be because of abrasions from grass. So nothing to worry about, and to speak of melanoma, the changes are not reversible, and if at all reversible, it takes so much time as our immune system takes time to work.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
