Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had mood swings, felt depressed, and had anxiety in public places to talk to people. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You have not mentioned enough details, like the duration of your problem or underlying stress. You may have mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. It will help if you try to follow the below guidelines to deal with it. It will help you.

  • It will help if you exercise 30 to 45 minutes daily, like at least going for a walk. It will uplift your mood.
  • You should do meditation for 20 minutes daily, sit in one place in a comfortable position, and try to concentrate on your normal breathing, do not stop or force yourself to control your thoughts. Just let it be. It will reduce mood swings and calm you.
  • You should eat healthy home-cooked food and avoid junk food.
  • You must drink enough water.
  • You should spend quality time with friends and family daily or do video calls if you are living away from your family.
  • Try to talk with new people daily, reducing your public speaking anxiety.
  • It would help if you spent time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments. It will increase your vocabulary, increase your confidence, and reduce social anxiety.
  • You should take enough seven to eight hours of sleep daily.
  • It would be best if you avoid tobacco or alcohol, or any substance abuse.

If you still have symptoms that persist after ten days, then you need to start medication. You must do the following blood reports: complete blood count, thyroid profile, vitamin B12, and vitamin D3.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
