Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

About three days ago, my bottom frenulum got cut (between the bottom two teeth), and since then, it has slowly become infected where the skin broke. As a result, the gums around the four teeth are red and inflamed, slightly swollen, and a bit of pus is developing on the cut. Is there any way to take care of this at home?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

This should settle soon. It would be best if you apply topical anesthetic gels like Orajel (Benzocaine) over the cut and the gums with a clean finger thrice daily to prevent discomfort or pain. I also suggest the following.

1. Avoid hot and spicy food for three to five days until it heals.

2. Rinse mouth after every meal to remove food deposits.

3. Saline mouth rinses twice for the next three days. This prevents further infection of the ulcer.

3. Do not disturb the ulcerated area during brushing. If left undisturbed, it should heal soon. If there is no improvement in healing in the next three days, you should visit your dentist and get it examined.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards.
