What could be the cause of small, pinhead-sized, dark red spots in the last back tooth region?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have small, pinhead-sized, dark red spots around and slightly above my second to last back tooth (molars removed). I am wondering if it is just from brushing or if I should be more worried. I had a cavity on the lower right side filled approximately one week ago and it is still sore. I am not sure if there is some correlation between the two. I have a cleaning scheduled in just over a month, but if it is something like oral cancer (no risk factors), then I want to go in sooner.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

1. I have read through your complaint and the relevant details.

2. The soreness you feel in the filled tooth is a common one after getting any filling done. This means you are slowly getting adapted to the newly filled tooth.

3. Coming to your main concern, the tiny red spots next to your back tooth, it could be simple mouth ulcers that present that way.

4. You have not mentioned to me if those are painful. So assuming those are small and painless I am sure those are the mouth ulcers that occur due to faulty toothbrushing or spicy food or any allergy to the newly filled material or trauma from the mouth mirror handle or could be stress.

5. These are all the possible reasons for those spots. I really need to see a picture of that region to confirm and give you a better treatment plan.

6. But please do not worry that it is oral cancer. It is most unlikely with all the information you gave me.

Thanks and regards.
