Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

MTP in 4 weeks, LMP a few months back, checked now, it was negative. What is my problem? When can I expect my period?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

MTP pills are hormone based so they can change hormonal balance in body leading to irregular menstruation. Also carry out pregnancy test. I would suggest you to wait for 1 week more and if menstruation does not occur till then, then consult a gynecologist and have yourself examined. But do not worry too much about it since it is a very common problem after taking pills and can be treated easily.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. But do you mean is it a false negative result of UPT? I am worried that I may get pregnant again. Can you please clearly clarify my doubt sir? What if I get pregnant again? I already have a child of 2 years so we need to wait for our second one as we are not ready yet for it. I am not a lactating mother now.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Since you had carried out UPT and it is negative so there is no chance of pregnancy. You can further have ultrasound examination of lower abdomen to rule out pregnancy and clear your doubt. Between first and second pregnancy there should be minimum of two years gap to replenish mothers stores of nutrients. Now if your periods do not return back within one week then you need to be investigated. You need to carry out FSH hormone levels, LH levels, serum estrogen levels, serum prolactin and thyroid hormone profile to find any imbalance leading to delayed periods after consultation with a gynecologist. Please do not worry as it can be treated easily by medications and also you can opt for intrauterine device as an alternate way to pills for birth control.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
