Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Lately, when I am climbing up rocks during a hike, my leg randomly gets spasms. I limp often and fall forward. I have recently had a seizure (after the leg issue started). I am 39 years old with no previous seizures. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do you regularly hike? Do you exercise regularly? Did you do all investigations for your seizures? Your pain may be because of myalgia (muscle may be exhausted due to it) or some vitamin or mineral deficiency. You can take vitamin supplements like Vitamin E, Methyl Cobalamin, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Gamma Linolenic Acid, and minerals). It may also be due to anemia. Check your hemoglobin levels and take iron supplements. To rule out the neurological cause, you will have to take an X-ray of your backbone and see any spinal problem. Do you have varicose veins? Are you a heavy smoker? It may affect the blood supply to your legs. Please see if any of these are there. You can do a routine blood test including,

  1. CBC (complete blood count).
  2. RBS (random blood sugar).
  3. ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate).
  4. Lipid profile.
  5. RFT (respiratory function test).
  6. LFT (liver function test).
  7. TFT (thyroid function test).
  8. EEG (electroencephalogram).
  9. X-ray of the backbone.
  10. Doppler of the lower limbs.

Please get back to me with the results. Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
